Plantation Shutters are made custom for your home. This allows us to add in personalized options, such as split tilt. In the photos above you can see that the tilt is split, allowing you to close just the bottom portion for privacy but keep the top portion open for light.

There is no additional cost to add the split tilt option to your plantation shutters. We pride ourselves in not adding a bunch of extra fees, keeping our shutters affordable for our customers in Southern California.

Many times we get calls about skylights. While they let in light and make rooms feel bigger, sometimes they increase the heat in a home or produce unwanted glare on TVs or computer screens. Cali Coast Shutters and Shades can come to the rescue with customized shade options to help with skylights in your home.

The skylight shades featured in the photos above are honeycomb shades. Also called cellular shades, we recommend these for skylights all the times for two reasons. One, they are a great option to block light. And two, honeycomb shades are insulating which can reduce heating and cooling costs.

Cellular shades come in sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque, and blackout fabrics, meaning you can customize the amount of light you let through depending on your choice.

Motorization

You have options on how to open and close your skylight shades. Motorization is the easiest option. Using a remote (as shown above), your smart home system (“Alexa, open my shades!”) or an app on your phone, you can easily control your skylight shades.

Motorization is easy to use, and we have affordable motorization options to work within your budget. Ask your designer for details on how you can add motorization to your home’s window coverings.

Your professional installer will show you how to use your motorized shades, and make sure you’re comfortable operating your shades before they leave. Splitting the Roller Shade

Sliding glass doors are one of our most requested shades. There’s a few different options for patio door shades. Above you can see where the roller shade is split into two panels. This allows you to put up just one shade at a time for easy access to your backyard.

The shades in the photo above are motorized. We recommend doing automatic shades for your patio doors, as they are large shades are hard to move manually. In order to be pet and child safe, it’s advised to only do cordless shades and cordless blinds in your home. Motorization is the easiest way to do cordless shades.

Easily control your motorized shades with a remote, your home smart system, or an app on your phone. Our expert designer will be your installer, showing you how to operate your shades after installation. And if any questions come up you have our direct number to call or text us with questions. Here is an example, in the same home, of a smaller patio door with a single panel. This is a good option in bedrooms, because if you do two panels there is an additional break between panels that can let in light.

This is a manual shade with clutch operation. Chain operated shades are an affordable option. If you’re not expecting to raise and lower your shades often, chain (clutch operation) may be the best choice for you.

This customer has beautiful large windows on the front of their condo. It’s a challenge to find a solution that allows for privacy and light blocking, but at the same time doesn’t permanently block the view.

Shutters are a great solution for this! As you can see in the above photo, the customer chose a split tilt on the shutters that allow them to open only a portion of the shutter if they choose to allow in light but keep privacy. Or they can open all the sections to still have a view and lots of natural light coming through their shutters.

This customer reached out about their bathroom window. They wanted a window treatment option that gave them privacy but still allowed them to operate the window. After discussing options with the customer, they decided on a custom plantation shutter for their bathroom.

No job is too small for us, this is the only window the customer wanted to do at this time. Cali Coast Shutters & Shades is happy to help out with projects big and small.

Vinyl vs. Wood Shutters

Our specialty is shutters, and specifically our custom Basswood Shutters. Real wood is durable to last a lifetime but light enough to not strain the hardware on shutters.

However, in this case we recommended our vinyl shutters. Why? Because this shutter is located in a bathroom. Areas of high moisture, such as a bathroom with a shower, do better with a vinyl shutter. The wood can be sensitive to constant high levels of moisture from a warm daily shower. But the vinyl is the perfect option.

We have the same paint and finish options on our vinyl shutters, so looking at a vinyl shutter next to a wood shutter you could barely tell any difference.
