The skylight shades featured in the photos above are honeycomb shades. Also called cellular shades, we recommend these for skylights all the times for two reasons. One, they are a great option to block light. And two, honeycomb shades are insulating which can reduce heating and cooling costs.

Cellular shades come in sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque, and blackout fabrics, meaning you can customize the amount of light you let through depending on your choice.

Splitting the Roller Shade

Sliding glass doors are one of our most requested shades. There’s a few different options for patio door shades. Above you can see where the roller shade is split into two panels. This allows you to put up just one shade at a time for easy access to your backyard.

The shades in the photo above are motorized. We recommend doing automatic shades for your patio doors, as they are large shades are hard to move manually. In order to be pet and child safe, it’s advised to only do cordless shades and cordless blinds in your home. Motorization is the easiest way to do cordless shades.

Easily control your motorized shades with a remote, your home smart system, or an app on your phone. Here is an example, in the same home, of a smaller patio door with a single panel. This is a good option in bedrooms, because if you do two panels there is an additional break between panels that can let in light.

This is a manual shade with clutch operation. Chain operated shades are an affordable option. If you’re not expecting to raise and lower your shades often, chain (clutch operation) may be the best choice for you.
